Bring it to the Mat: Supporting International Men’s Health Week
June 13th-19th is International Men’s Health Week, an awareness week that shines a spotlight on health issues that specifically affect men. This includes mental health, which is equally as important as physical health for achieving overall wellbeing.
The mental health benefits of yoga
It’s no secret that exercise is a proven mood booster, but yoga is more than just a workout. It’s a combination of postures, deep relaxation, breathing practices, and meditation, which each have a whole host of additional benefits.
Meditation and any other activities that promote mindfulness can be really helpful for tackling anxiety and relieving stress. It’s important to note, however, that yoga and meditation aren’t a solution to prolonged anxiety or other mental health issues, but are instead practices that may help to promote an improved sense of wellbeing when incorporated into your daily routine.
If you are experiencing mental health issues that are beginning to impact on your daily life, it’s important to reach out for professional support from your GP or an accredited mental health professional.
It’s good to talk
If you’re concerned that a loved one is struggling, one of the most simple things you can do to help is reach out. Ask them how they’re doing and be there to listen.
At YoYoga, we’d like to encourage you to bring it to the mat. Grab your friend, bring your mats, and use the time together to chat and destress. Even if you just end up sitting on your mat with a cup of tea, time spent together in a safe, non-judgemental space can make the world of difference.
